January 1978

After studying Greek Mythology in 9th grade, Dan Lorenzo picks the name Hades for his band.

March 1978

Hades with Paul Smith on vocals and Dan on guitar start playing shows in Paramus, NJ. They covered songs by Cheap Trick, Aerosmith, KISS, The  Knack and Ted Nugent.

1982

Hades open for Twisted Sister at The Soap Factory. They also record and release Deliver Us From Evil a 72 featuring the songs Girls Will Be Girls and Social Disease. T. Coombs is on drums.

1983

Hades starts playing NJ and NY clubs like The Union Jack, The Cuckoo's Nest and Club 516 in Old Bridge. After playing Club 516 a number of times  the legendary Old Bridge Militia welcomed Hades into their fold with open arms. They began asking them to play Metal Joe's basement where Hades would jam on Priest, Maiden, Saxon and Motorhead covers,  (plus some early originals like Gloomy Sunday and Rogue's March) until 5 in the morning. This was not a club mind you. It was literally Metal Joe's basement! Says Dan Lorenzo, "When Joe first approached me about playing there I thought it sounded stupid." But Joe had a convincing way about him. He told Dan, "If Metallica and Anthrax could do it, so could you!" Looking back Dan  had this to say, "The basement gigs were always great. Tons of food, good pay and the most enthusiastic fans this side of Europe". I think the Old Bridge Militia forced Johnny Z to put Hades on his "Born To Metalize" compilation. Johnny basically left us with a bunch of unkept promises. We were the only band that did not rerecord their songs for the comp. Bassist Lou Ciarlo, Johnny  and I flew up to Rochester to remix our two songs (at the studio where Metallica's Kill Em All was done). We slept on the floor and heard ghosts all night. What a start!

December 1982

After playing covers for the past three years in NY & NJ clubs, Hades, (Dan, Paul and Tom) release a 72 with two originals, Girls Will Be Girls and Social Disease.
